Pilley Stores - Community Meeting

There will be a community meeting held at William Gilpin School from 18:30 on Thursday 12th November.

Over the last 6 months, the shop has been converted in to a Community Benefit Society and has negotiated a new 7 year lease and a huge thank you needs to go to all of those who have contributed to this effort.

The shop committee will be giving more details on this progress to date and plans for the future. This includes of a scheme to enable community ownership of the Pilley Community Shop Ltd. The intention is to offer this through the purchase of a share for a donation of £10 or more with shareholders will be entitled to have a say in how the business is run.

The committee is also looking for new recruits to help the current team and are seeking to fill the role of Chairman and to appoint someone with professional financial skills as Treasurer.



Great Boldre Bake Off

The Great Boldre Bake Off is taking place at the Boldre Club on Saturday 14th November.

There are 2 separate categories which are:

• 11 years old and younger - Entry fee £2.50

• 12 years - Adult - Entry fee £5

Entries can be anything you like as long as it is baked and delicious!!

Entries are to be submitted to the judges between 12 noon and 2 pm

Judging commences at 2pm

The competition is then followed by a lovely afternoon tea at 3.30pm

All proceeds go to Oakhaven Hospice

Boldre Website wins HALC Award

The Boldre Parish Council website ( has been awarded the Best Local Council Website Award 2015 by the Hampshire Association of Local Councils (HALC). The award was presented at the HALC AGM on October 10th by John Connell from the Department of Communities and Local Government.

Gordon Fong, the competition judge and CEO of Bournemouth web design company e-mango said: “Boldre stood out is because it has a Councillors page;  it is nicely laid out with images and has a downloadable version.  Also, having a news feed shows the site is active and makes you want to come back again as you know it will be updated soon”

Boldre Parish Historical Society - 2015 Exhibition

The Society's next exhibition will be held on Saturday 24" October and Sunday 25"October, from 11am to on both days. Entry will be free.

As usual there will be a wide variety of subjects connected with the Civil Parish of Boldre. These include features on Norley Wood in the early 20" century, and histories of four local families, the Hewitt family being one, as well as a look at some of those people who were born at Nanny Gould's maternity home which started off in Portmore in the late 1930s.

There will be a good mixture of photographs and narrative as well as three metal memorial plaques from Arras in north eastern France concerning the Duplessis family of Newtown Park.
As usual the exhibition has been put together by members of the Historical Society with the co-operation of local and not so local people.
