Parish Highways
BPC Highways Group – Report May 2024
Many potholes have been filled in Boldre Lane, Warborne Lane and across the area. This has improved the position significantly. Markings on some other damaged areas suggest that further work is in the pipeline.
Flooding has dissipated and some significant work has been done on Pilley Street, outside Slade Cottages, which may have addressed the problem there. At our request Cllr Poole raised the issue with NFDC who undertook the work on May 7th. The ditch has been cleared and water flow should improve. (Thanks to Clive Turner, the Engineers and Cllr Poole for their work on this).
HCC’s Future Services Consultation results show strong opposition to HCC’s proposal to cut budgets significantly for Scheduled or Programmed Maintenance projects – 91% of responses from the New Forest disagreed with the proposal, as compared to 88% across Hampshire as a whole. Of the proposals put forward in the Consultation this one produced most opposition.
Highways Group have written a number of times to our HCC Representative recently, seeking to enlist support in trying to have Boldre Lane and Pilley Hill included in the Highways Authority’s programme of scheduled work – which could include top dressing or more radical procedure.
HCC recently announced its Planned Maintenance Schedule for roads across the county – around 400 locations across the County, about 40 in the New Forest. Unfortunately none in Boldre & Lymington Division

Recreation Ground Project
The amenities team have been putting ideas together for the older children’s recreation area. Three companies will be asked to provide a plan based upon ideas we have.
Is there anything you would like to see at the recreation ground? Do you have any further fundraising ideas? Please get in touch.
Thoughts are being given to how the recreation ground as a whole could have alternative recreation uses. Do you have a group that could use the pavilion for an outside exercise class or use it as a base for some outdoor training? Contact the Clerk with your proposals.
Parish Emergency Incident Plan
The key areas we need to complete are
- Centre(s) of refuge
- Key people to act as an ‘Emergency contact list’, ideally one from each Boldre, Pilley, Norley Wood and Portmore areas
- Knowledge of available local skills and resources – e.g. Trained first aider, 4x4/tractor driver, chainsaw owner, mechanic, water and food supplies
- Forming a local networks where the community are looking out for and keeping check on the most vulnerable
If you can help with any of these, please get in touch.
The council will next meet on Monday 10th June at 18.30. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting.
